Day One
Today we depart for Lake Raystown Resort in Entriken, PA. Here we will have a picnic lunch before an afternoon sightseeing cruise aboard the Proud Mary Showboat on Raystown Lake. We then depart for the Courtyard by Marriott in Altoona, our home for the next two nights. Dinner will be enjoyed at a local restaurant. L, D
Day Two
This morning following breakfast we’ll meet our Hobo guide at the Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site. This ingenious system of incline planes and levels carried passengers and freight over the rugged Allegheny Mountains from 1834 to 1854. From here we will travel to the Gallitzin Tunnels, three tunnels at the summit of the Allegheny Mountains that are still operational. Then, we’ll visit the Horseshoe Curve National Historic Landmark to visit the interpretive center and ride to track level on the single-track funicular. Our authentic Hobo luncheon will be served at the Blair County Convention Center while we hear tales of the journey by a hobo guest. A short stop will be made at the Boyer Candy Outlet before arriving at the Railroader’s Memorial Museum. This high-tech interpretive facility gives us a first-hand experience of life in a booming railroad town. Dinner will be in Bedford this evening at Jean Bonnet Tavern. B, L, D
Day Three
After breakfast, we’ll head to William E. Swigart, Jr. Automobile Museum, one of America’s oldest auto museums. The museum hosts 30-35 automobiles along with vintage clothing and accessories, automobiles, bicycles, toys and much more. Lunch will be included at the Penn Stater in State College. Our arrival home will be early evening. B, L
The Sunshine Boys
One of the funniest comedies of all time, about a one-time vaudevillian team known as “Lewis & Clark” who, over the course of forty-odd years, not only grew to hate each other but never spoke to each other off-stage throughout the final year of their act.
Little Shop of Horrors
One of the most popular musicals of all time, Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of the well-meaning flower shop employee Seymour Krelborn and his wisecracking carnivorous plant, Audrey II. Seymour delights in the attention his leafy friend attracts, but when Audrey II develops a craving for human flesh, the situation spins out of control. Prior to the show, you’ll tour the Historic Fords Theatre Museum, which has re-opened.
